Professional Supervision for Social Workers and Counsellors
My name is Leigh and I can be your professional supervisor.
As an experienced Senior Social Worker with over 25+ years working and studying in the area of Human, Social and Community Services since 1992, I now offer Professional Supervision for those in the sector seeking formal guidance.
Having operated in both Government and Not-For-profit sector (Cairns, Far North Queensland and Brisbane), I have consolidated my advanced Social Sciences practice and developed a specific strengths-based, client-focused professional private practice capacity.
I have also found my way through hardship, adversity and circuitous routes that have disrupted life and career, I know how tough it is to support others when our own lives are a bit messy!
Known for my highly approachable manner, I have adapted my communication and therapy style to best suit the individual.
This flexible approach lends itself to creating a comfortable and confidential space to unload even the most sensitive of experiences or information to explore concerns, periods of adversity and/or fears as you develop your own practice in Social Work / Human Services.
The purpose of the supervision process is to provide a safe, supportive opportunity for individuals to engage in critical reflection in order to raise issues, explore problems, and discover new ways of handling both the situation and oneself. A critical aspect of supervision lies in its potential to educate and illuminate.
My supervisory practice is both intuitive and structured, centred around your needs. I do insist that all supervisees develop awareness into their own motives, areas of bias, fears and past experiences to be able to establish appropriate boundaries and be able to deliver quality services to others. I also highly encourage self care for longevity sake!
I ultimately tailor each session to the individual depending on your level of experience and what you seek to gain from the professional supervision sessions.
Following the work of Loganbill, Hardy & Delworth, my flexible model of supervision reflects a review and assessment of the following areas of professional practice, depending on your goals, concerns and/or focus and direction:
(b) Emotional Awareness,
(d) Theoretical Identity,
(e) Respect for Individual Differences,
(f) Purpose and Direction,
(g) Personal Motivation, and
(h) Professional Ethics.
